FAQs Small Fry Sessions

New in 2025, we debuted 15-minute "small fry sessions" which are short INDIVIDUAL lessons for the youngest swimmers! These lessons are perfect for 3-5 year old beginners or timid swimmers. During these sessions, the pool is quiet—no big kids or groups. Just young swimmers one-on-one, learning. Your child receives full attention from Lisa and will go at the pace the swimmer dictates.

During April 2026, mornings are dedicated for these sessions… we will have an on-deck assistant to help get your child from your car to the pool. Your child will be welcomed, encouraged, motivated, and cheered!!! You may stay in your car, go for a walk, or run a quick errand. Our deck assistant will have your child ready to go and keep us running on time, since these lessons are short and sweet.

During 2025, I ran groups of three year olds and found it to be a fun and wild adventure! The group environment did not foster individual learning for everyone. More than that, the unpredictable, delightful nature of my youngest swimmers led to the need for one-on-one lessons. Safety is always priority and when I have the ability to attend to each swimmer fully, I can meet their physical and emotional needs better. In short… I ran an experiment and found 15-minute private lessons produced better outcomes than 30 minute group lessons.

YES!! The learning process of swimming can be strenuous for kiddos. I can provide more care in an individual session of 15 minutes than I can in a 2 or 3 swimmer group of 30 minutes. These short sessions minimize exhaustion and also on the occasion your child swallows water while learning how to swim, the shorter class duration will keep her safer and more comfortable. If she is upset at the process, 15 minutes still gives us plenty of time to work through those emotions. 15 minutes is ideal for maintaining my favorite swim environment—a FUN one where safety comes first.

A deck assistant! In dedicated small fry sessions, currently April 2026 mornings, I have an assistant ready and waiting. When you arrive (up to 10 min early is fine!) your child will settle in and stay with the deck assistant. Our deck assistant will help maintain order and safety, in addition to keeping us running on time. When it is time to switch swimmers, Lisa and the assistant will perform a handover where your child will change care from the deck assistant to Lisa. After his lesson is complete, the assistant will get him dried off and back out to the gate to meet you.

In April, I have cleared the morning calendar to get these little guys swimming!! So yes, during those sessions, you truly can rely on some white-glove treatment for swimming. I have watched more than enough of you brave mamas out in cool mornings with multiple kiddos… if you have an infant and a toddler and a preschooler… gosh! Go mama! Let us help you make this one thing a little bit less work.

Our swim assistant will not get children out of cars. The deck assistant will meet your child at the driveway pool gate. Handing over children at the gate to Lisa and/or an assistant is only possible during APRIL 2026 morning sessions. Emails will be sent making it abundantly clear what to expect during your 15 minute lessons, whenever they are scheduled in 2026. Never, ever leave your child anywhere near a pool without direct supervision.

I never want to kick parents out and force kids to come in and swim solo. When my sons learned how to swim, I wanted to feel freedom to come and watch. However. I've taught swim for a long time, and a LOT of kids learn better without an audience. Our little bitty friends do not wait as well individually when my attention is on one swimmer in the pool, so we added an assistant to help. If your baby needs a car nap, the toddler needs a walk, or you need a coffee… feel free. If you want to come and watch and nobody is stressed out by mama on the deck, it's still fine.

Small Fry Sessions are for ALL three year olds. I will NOT teach a group of three year olds in 2026.

I have dedicated some sessions for Small Fry only, check the Session Details for dates & times. I am happy to offer these sessions whenever it fits in your schedule – I will have a deck assistant during the dedicated sessions.

If your child is three years old, you must book an individual lesson of either 15 or 30 minutes. 15 minutes is my preference for under age 5. Four year olds may choose a group if parent/child prefer. You also can do a week of 15 minute lessons and then a week (or two!) of group lessons. This would be an excellent strategy for someone age 4 or 5.

Sure thing! Kids have all sorts of abilities! I get kiddos that are 7 or 8 and have never learned to swim. If you think something short and snappy is best for your young swimmer, bring it on. If your kiddo is older, just know the peers will be younger during these lessons. The pool will be set up for beginners during these lessons. If your child is over age 3 and swimming at what I call "level two" or above, these lessons are not for you. Groups or 30 minute private lessons are better.

Y'all, I am a speech therapist by trade and I love nothing more than a unique-abilitied individual. I LOVE having special needs friends in my pool. If your child is age 3-6 and has some needs or is in diagnostic process, yes. I think 15 minutes could be perfect. Maybe your child has needs that 15 minutes is far too short to produce the outcome you are hoping for... I have options for special needs. Please email me. No kid fits in a FAQ box and I would love to help make sure we get the right fit.
